Learnings from Miguel Galvez: Experienced Hires

NBD Nano CEO and SSCVP General Partner Miguel Galvez gave this year’s accelerator class a behind-the-scenes look at how his company went from an idea at Boston College to a multi-million dollar business — with a little bit of help.

Early on in NBD Nano’s history, Miguel and his team made an important decision: to hire employees with much more experience running and managing a business (and people) than themselves.

Miguel’s first hire was came with 25 years of industry experience and was able to command the respect of NBD’s experienced scientists.  “It was one of the best things that we ever did,” according to Miguel.  Whether it was keeping the scientists organized, feeling confident in the company leadership — or not throwing a mutiny — the experienced hires helped propel NBD Nano and its scientists to take the next step in the company’s development.
